Wildfire Preparedness Programs and Clean Air Center Program for Vulnerable Populations
Problem: Vulnerable populations disproportionately suffer from the effects of wildfire smoke and air pollution.
Solution: Smarter HEPA provided large-space HEPA air purifiers with carbon filters to wildfire evacuation centers, community centers, libraries, senior centers, shelters, and other public facilities.
Units Distributed:
- 873 Smart Air Blast air purifiers
- Replacement filters to ensure effective air treatment for 5 years
Locations Served: 21 counties within three Air Quality Management Districts in California: Bay Area AQMD, San Joaquin Valley APCD, and CAPCOA .

Air Purification for private schools and daycare facilities in environmental justice areas within the South Coast Air Quality Management District communities.
Problem: Children are more vulnerable to the effects of breathing polluted air.
Solution:
- Reduce children’s exposure to fine particulate matter, toxic diesel particulate matter and other air pollutants in select environmental justice communities in the greater Los Angeles area
- Install and maintain air filtration units in private daycare schools and private K-12 schools in 11 environmental justice communities
Units Distributed:
- Delivered and installed 1,100 air purifiers, then trained users
- Replacement filters to ensure effective air treatment for 6 years
Impact:
- Cleaner, healthier air to more than 10,000 students and faculty in 177 private schools and daycare centers
- Smarter HEPA helped more than 200 private schools and daycares learn about, write, and submit grant applications for this initiative. Of these 200 applications, 177 were accepted.
Government of Nunavut
Problem: Medical facilities lacked a way to mitigate air pollution and reduce airborne disease transmission in designated medical facilities.
Solution: Smarter HEPA provided room-sized air purifiers to medical facilities in Nunavut
